Lord Macaulay treated all as his equal. To me, a young girl, he would say 'Don’t you remember?' as if I had 1/10th the information he possessed in his little finger. If I said I did not he would quote title of book, number of page & line, advising me to read some work I had never heard of. He told me to trust memory - not to make notes.
