Murder is rife in the land in its most violent & its most insidious forms, & the astounding disclosures of fraudulent dealings amongst our mercantile classes - the thousand ingenious shapes which crime has assumed in the hands of the regular criminal practitioners - are all tokens which point to the necessity of stern repression
